How do I know when I can start Movement Therapy?
Following any injury, operation, or birth, our bodies need gentle care and time to heal. Your medical professional, be that Consultant or Chiropractor, will guide you as to expected timings and provide you with sign-off when you are ready to restart ‘normal’ exercise. You may have Physiotherapy prescribed for the affected joint and this should be completed before starting Movement Therapy.
Many people find that after a trauma to the body, movement feels different or misaligned. The body naturally protects itself, limiting functionality and often creating compensation patterns. This is when Movement Therapy is designed to come in, assisting and accelerating your return to full range and full send movement.

How many sessions will I need, and how often?
The number and frequency of sessions is largely determined by your body — how complex the medical history and the goals you are working towards. We will discuss this all in session one.
I recommend one session every other week initially, with daily movement homework in between. Taking ownership of healing your own body is key to success, so I won’t see you often enough for your to rely on our sessions for practice! :)
Once we have worked through the movement issues we set out to, a review session a few months down the line is recommended.

What do I need to wear and bring?
Please wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows for a full range of movement. Fitted clothing can help in visual assessment but hands-on touch checking will be part of your sessions regardless.
Please wear clean socks, with or without grips on the base.
Please take off your shoes in the waiting room ahead of your session. Drinking water is available at the practice.
-
Do sessions use a Pilates Reformer?
YES! The Reformer is a wonderfully versatile piece of equipment that helps you find and practice using specific muscle (or muscle group) engagement. The variable resistance and instability of the Reformer allows us to increasingly challenge your body’s patterning and strength. It is safe for use with all clients and quickly creates significant change.
Sessions will also use mat and standing based movement, with props when required.

When can I do Movement Therapy after giving birth? / How long after birth can it still help?
The typical recommendation is to rest for 6 weeks after birth. Each birth and pregnancy are undeniably unique, so please get in touch with details and I will recommend when would be best.
If you are recently post partum, breath work, gentle deep abdominal reconnection and hands-on fascia release around the lower back and abdominals is hugely effective in healing Diastasis Recti (abdominal splitting). If you are months or even years/decades post partum, there is never a bad time to recondition your abdominals and pelvic floor properly.

When during pregnancy can I do Movement Therapy?
All the way through, with a recommendation to stop around 36 weeks, but this will depend on your pregnancy, most importantly how you feel and and any medical conditions.
There are a few conditions we need to be careful with but movement is so beneficial for general strength and mobility, baby positioning and any issues like SI joint pain. Let me know your situation and I can advise what's best.
-
Can I cancel or reschedule my session?
Of course you can. Please give 24 hours’ notice ahead of your scheduled session to ensure you are not charged in full.
Please email Jenna at hello@jennalamornamovement.com to give notice of this.
